What spec should I do for a Paladin in World of Warcraft?

samson343 asked:

I decided to make a paladin for World of Warcraft and what spec is most needed in World of Warcraft? Like, when it comes to raids and instances, what spec do groups want a paladin to be????

For raids and instances, holy or prot are the most needed.

For leveling, go either Retribution (single target leveling) or prot (multiple target leveling).

Well it depends on what you want to do.

If you like pwning noobs in the battlegrounds, then I suggest you go Retribution.

If you like to raid or do dungeons, any spec would do, but to be prot or holy is the most demand out of them all and will be chosen to get into groups more often.

I would try out each spec and see how you like each one. Enjoy!

Go Prot, its easy to level and it is VERY easy to get into a group by being the tank, Tanks and healers are hard to find, dps is EASY to find. Holy is harder to solo level as. Ret is OP dps so soloing will be easy, but like I said, dps is easy to find. A good tank is hard to find, and for prot pallies it is hard NOT to be a good tank.

For soling you just gather up everything you can and aoe them down.

Dont be a mindless Ret drone and just go Ret because it does insane dps, do something that makes a difference in a group :P

And as far as pvp as a prot pally, yeah you arent doing insane dps, but you are damn near never going to die, and it pisses people off :P

It totally depends on your server, but most of the time, Tanks and Healers are most welcomed. Ret. Paladins aren’t needed really, but it’s fun. Usually people want a Prot spec or Holy spec in their group. Leveling would probably recommend Ret, it’s fast and easy.

well it really would depend on the makeup of your realm, depending on the popualtion groups may need a holy paladin for healing, a prot paladin to tank, or a ret paladin to dps.

Go holy!!!! You will get into a group all the time.

Holy if u want to be in the background healing
Retribution if u want to tank and dps
u should be one of those

Hope this helps

Depends on your play style.

Retrubution – if you prefer doing soloing quests and progressing faster to higher levels.

Holy – if you prefer group work and would rather be the one that saves everyone when they get into trouble. Involves slower progression when soloing.

Protection – if you prefer group work and would rather be in control of the situation of the group and leading it. Involves slower progression when soloing.

Note that it is very easy to find groups if you are prot or holy, and you will most likely swap to prot or holy (if not already) at max level

Well right now compared to the other healing classes holy paladins aren’t quite up to the mark. They’re great at single target healing but can’t really handle the whole group getting hurt and keep the tank up as well, which is why these days you’ll often see lf healer, prefer priest/shammy/druid for 5 mans. Prot pally tanks however are awesome so that’s a good option for you. Ret is not bad these days either, since they gave them some crowd control in the form of repentance and their damage is quite decent. You’ll find a group as any spec, might just take a bit longer if you go dps but ultimately choose whichever spec appeals to you most. It’s a game after all… try have some fun with it lol

As I see most people didn’t refer too when they answered was RAID and INSTANCES , and Every Spec is diffrent and intressting , Go witch what you want to be , you can always respec and try other specs , hardest part will be getting the gear for it.

Retribution: Mostly reffered to as Ret spec , Paladins who play as ret are refered as Retadins , This is a DPS spec , but it’s not a Pure dps spec like lets say a Blood DK or a Fury or Arms Warrior , What most people don’t understand is that ret is designed by Blizzard to be a support class , as ret I end up sometimes offhealing and even offtanking when I’m raiding. PvP aspect of ret is this… you will WTFBBQSAUCEPWN ANY class or race 1v1 with same gear ratio , when you learn more advanced stuff in ret like Using Cooldowns at good times you’d be able to solo 2-4 Players in PvP.

Holy : Holy spec , paladins who play Holy are refeared to healdins , this is a Healing spec , Most boring healing EVER , if you want to heal , make a druid or a priest , all you’ll do most the time is change targets and Cast Flash of light , you’ll use the occasional Holy Light and Holy shock. In PvP I love this spec , Enoth said , You can run around and cast Holy shock on yourself and never die. Awesome for PvP healing , no other class can be better in Arenas ( Healing Wise )

Protection : PvE aspect , Prot Spec , Paladins who play prot are refereed as Protadins. Paladin tanking is rough , but unique non the less , You’ll be offtanking most the time raiding , witch means picking up adds on bosses , tanking boss when the MT can’t , and if none of that happends , you’ll stand there and DPS. this is the Funnest paly class to play , most difficult for new palies tho , It has alot of aspects , I won’t reveal my secrets :) , but for example , some times I stop Using any Damage Reducing abilities just so I can get hit harder , Why? Simple : Bigger hits = More DMG taken = More heals taken = More mana ( The more you get healed , the more mana you regenerate ).

If you have any other questions please send me a tell. I also know a lot about the whole game basically , feel free to ask me anything. Hope this helps =)

As for what spec you should be , Try them all , Read up on them and raid and PvP with all of them. If you want numbers on how many of each paladin exists , nobody keeps track , every server ( realm ) has a different Number of Paladins and Specs. You should ask this question in General or Trade chat ( /1 and /2 chat in WoW )

For high end raiding you’ll probably want to go Holy(healing) or Retribution(DPS). Protection Paladins aren’t needed as much anymore since WotLK because of Warriors getting their AoE(Area of Effect) tanking skill.
