yeah you might have to get your sword skill up or sometihng
Items do have level limits on them, so its possible that could be the problem.
However, its more likely that you have not trained to use that particular weapon. On your character sheet is a tab marked SKILLS, look at the that to see the weapons you have already learned. If you need to learn one or two handed swords, you should visit either Woo Ping in Stormwind (hes in a weapons shop across from the auction house) or Handir in the Exodar (traders tier). If you need help finding them, the city guards can help.
